SSRMON APPLICATION NOTE AN2
This application note using the SSRMON in a 3 three phase system provides:
- Alarm if any phase is lost
- Alarm if any of the solid state relays become shorted
- Alarm if any of the process loads become open
- Alarm if the SSRMON power supply is lost
- Single alarm contact for all three phases
FIG. 1 shows an application where the NuWave Technologies SSRMON is used to detect multiple failure modes of a typical 3 phase control system. The Process Controller is setup as a time proportioned PID output with a logic drive signal for the SSR and SSRMON. If any of the three SSRMONs detect a Shorted Solid State Relay, Open Load, or Loss of Phase Power, it’s output relay opens signaling an alarm condition. During normal operating conditions, the series connected output relays provide a single normally closed contact which opens during any of the aforementioned faults.
